WWE Backlash 2020 | Predictions

Tonight is the night our eyes will pop out of their sockets at what we are witnessing. We will collapse as our legs jitter with the excitement. We will lose our breathe from the chanting and yelling as tonight we will be watching ‘The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever’.

Hello y’all! Hasn’t wrestling been pretty whack recently?! Honestly, we are hot off the tracks of NXT Takeover: In Your House and have finished the set up to a hyped up Backlash.

Randy Orton vs Edge is being slated to be ‘The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever’. Will it live up to the potential? Probably not. Although, I believe these predictions will live up to the ‘Greatest Predictions Ever’.

If you throw the word ‘Great’ into something, most people will believe it’s true.

Anyways, this show is actually quite exciting and I’m looking forward to how it’ll play out – more specifically how Orton vs Edge can be great while letting us down at the same time. I am curious, so WWE’s plan worked.

Let’s predict WWE Backlash 2020:

Universal Championship: Braun Strowman (c) vs Miz & Morrison

As we know from past experiences Strowman doesn’t do well in handicap matches… Just ask Sami Zayn.

However, this may be the only thing that is slightly intriguing about this match. I can’t see Miz & Morrison – a comedy tag team – winning the biggest title on the Smackdown brand and therefore, will be picking Braun Strowman to crush their team. Hey hey! Ho Ho!

If I have to guess the Monster Among Men’s challenger for Extreme Rules I’d choose either Sheamus or Daniel Bryan. It could be the Fiend but I foresight that happening at Summerslam – a year on from The Fiend’s first match.

Miz & Morrison’s future, post-destruction from Braun will more than likely be a break-up. It has been teased at for some time but perhaps they can’t work together to beat Braun here. Obviously, only one man can become champion and how will they work out who? Exactly. A breakup is imminent.

Prediction: Braun Strowman

Sheamus vs Jeff Hardy

Hasn’t this rivalry gotten personal? Or should I say PEErsonal? Alright, I’ll stop with that horrible patter.

Anyways, this feud has been quite offensive to the real life past problems of Hardy but as long as he agrees, I can’t see it being inappropriate and it just adds to the tension between the two.

If you don’t know the backstory: Jeff Hardy has been a recovering alcoholic for quite some time and WWE set this story up to be Sheamus constantly calling him a ‘junkie’. Sheamus (not identified, but suspected) set up a hit and run with Elias as the victim, so that the Charismatic Enigma would be blamed due to alcohol in the car.

That was proved false as well as the urine test on the recent Smackdown. Which led to him throwing the pee into the Celtic Warrior’s face!

I can see Hardy struggling to get Backlash here and the feud continues to have a stipulation at Extreme Rules. Maybe pee on a pole match or loser gets arrested for the Elias hit and run…

Predictions: Sheamus

United States Championship: Apollo Crews (c) vs Andrade

It has took its time but we finally have Apollo Crews as United States Champion! Unfortunately, Paul Heyman has lost his job as the executive-producer of Raw and has been replaced with Smackdown’s creative head, Bruce Prichard. This could mean all hope is lost for Crews.

I beg that isn’t the case and have my fingers crossed that he can beat Andrade in this rematch. Whether or not, this has the possibility of stealing the show!

Prediction: Apollo Crews

Women’s Tag Team Championship: Bayley & Sasha Banks (c) vs Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross vs The IIconics

2019 saw Becky2Belts. 2020 sees BayleyDosBelts!

Boss N’ Hug Connection are the Women’s Tag Team Champions! Albeit this, it feels like they are the most seperated out of the three teams in this match. They are on the brink of splitting up and battling over Bayley’s other belt – The SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Banks vs Bayley will be saved for Summerslam though. This is Backlash and I think they have one more month to retain until they explode on each other. It is only a matter of time but the time is not yet.

Prediction: Bayley & Banks

RAW Women’s Championship: Asuka (c) vs Nia Jax

With The Man becoming The Mom, we got another blissful moment which saw Asuka switch her Money In The Bank briefcase for the RAW Women’s Championship.

This then started a rivalry between the Empress of Tomorrow and Nia Jax – the Kairi Sane destroyer.

At first I thought this match will be interesting, however, it has became too predictable that Asuka will certainly win now.

Cause she has a bigger picture ahead of her: Charlotte Flair.

Obviously, Charlotte has to jump from title to title and therefore, Asuka will easily defeat the immovable object and then face the Queen in a rematch from WrestleMania – when Asuka’s streak was broken…

Prediction: Asuka

WWE Championship: Drew McIntyre (c) vs Bobby Lashley

This match is actually very exciting!

It is crazy how quickly Lashley’s career has risen in starpower since joining forces with MVP and now he has his first WWE Championship match since returning to the company.

It may not be against a certain Beast Incarnate but instead is against the guy who beat the Beast – so even better!

This match will be great and I’m expecting McIntyre to claymore the living hell out of Lashley!

Also, Bobby’s ‘wife’, Lana will be involved somehow and will end up costing Lashley the match, so they can go ahead with the divorce and move away from the bad smell known as Lashley vs Rusev.

Prediction: Drew McIntyre

The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever: Randy Orton vs Edge

Finally, I can give my predictions for this match.

WWE have to tread to carefully as this kind of advertising can end in heartache for the fans.

This is a match between two people who are past their prime. Orton hasn’t be notable for putting on the classic matches and is rather known for his bloodfeud storylines. Then there is Edge who has had one match since returning from a Nine-year retirement.

Speaking of that match, it was the Last Man Standing between Edge and Orton at WrestleMania 36. This match was the longest on the show by quite some margine and was more throwing against walls than wrestling.

This match is here to change that but also here to troll the fans. We are not going to get the greatest match, so don’t even try to believe it will happen. Whatever they do will be funnier if you see it in that light and therefore, you won’t jump on the hate WWE bandwagon afterwards.

Anyways, I expect this match to be a massive troll with just an RKO outta nowhere hitting the Rated R Superstar and Orton grabbing the victory. This will lead to the final match at Summerslam.

Prediction: Randy Orton

There we go, will these be the Greatest Predictions Ever? Probably not but nothing can be perfect.

Let’s just hope this is a great show and with some lightheartedness, Edge vs Orton lives up to some potential.

I’ll be watching live, so you can join me in discussions via Twitter.

See you there! šŸ˜€
