Yay! Another NXT TakeOver! These are always fun!
It is actually the 31st TakeOver and with the reputation of these events, y’know you are in store for an incredible show! With the match card anticipated, the streak looks to be unbroken.
This show is probably erasing WarGames from 2020 (to add to the damage of a hectic year) which means William Regal can’t do his annual “WARGAMES” yell. 😦
The show has to be ten times better to make up for this! Likewise, I’d like to go for gold and get a full house on predictions. I done it for Payback. Got two wrong at Clash of Champions. I am a prediction-master and I need to prove it. 😉
NXT Women’s Championship: Io Shirai (c) vs Candice LeRae
Let’s start with my wildest prediction for this show. These bold moves don’t really work well for me but it doesn’t stop me going for them each month.
Therefore, I am going to pick Candice LeRae for the win against Io Shirai.
Shirai has shockingly (where has the time gone?!) been NXT Women’s Champ for over 100 days! However, you wouldn’t have guessed that because she has had very minimum storylines as champion.
LeRae and Shirai have history and with the question luming “Will we see our first power-couple in NXT?” with LeRae’s Husband, Johnny Gargano facing Damian Priest later in the evening for his respective title, this is one of the most engaging matches on the show!
I think it will be a fun fight, then LeRae will possum her way into her first title victory. This could then build into her rivalry with Tegan Nox – once she returns from injury – who should beat her for the dream knighting.
Prediction: Candice LeRae
NXT Cruiserweight Championship: Santos Escobar (c) vs Isaiah “Swerve” Scott
Personally, I think the Santos Escobar character has been very underwhelming since being revealed as the leader of Legado Del Fantasma. The star-power of the unit has been drilled and smoothed out that they just feel like another team on the roster.
Despite this, the match will be insane and something I’ll keep my eyes glued on. Escobar should retain here and move onto the mouth-watering rivalry with Drake Maverick!
Prediction: Santos Escobar
Kushida vs The Velveteen Dream
It is unbelievable that this may be the first TakeOver singles match for Kushida. He has been in the company for over a year – how is that possible?!
He may be one of the most severely over-looked competitors on NXT…
Anyways, tonight he will be facing the most controversial man, Velveteen Dream.
Kushida must win here or there will be riots, I presume!
NXT North American Championship: Damian Priest (c) vs Johnny Gargano
Before Priest won the North American Championship at TakeOver: XXX, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the ‘Archer of Infamy’. However, he has really turned that view around; I quite enjoy the miserable tone of his promo’s and the party-animal character.
As his first TakeOver defense, Johnny Gargano is the perfect opponent. He has the heel persona and star-power to elevate Priest to the next level. Which is why the Power-Couple will not be winning here tonight.
LeRae could celebrate her life away but the Gargano household will still be sour as Gargano, himself, will be frustrated with his loss to Priest.
Priest has to retain here and have a good run as North American Champion. Then he can party in his hot-tub all night long.
Prediction: Damian Priest
NXT Championship: Finn Balor (c) vs Kyle O’Reilly
I would sit through anything to reach the outcome of this match. Finn Balor defending the NXT Title against Kyle O’Reilly? Yes please!!!
The way this match has been built from the ground up is astounding. If anyone told me last month Balor would be champion and he would have his first title defense against O’Reilly – I would’ve thought they were kidding me on! However, I’m glad that I’m wrong. This is exceptional booking and I am really looking forward to this bout.
Kyle O’Reilly has the look of an underdog, babyface Champion and I hope he wins the big one (in NXT or WWE) someday. But I don’t feel like Balor will be losing here.
I don’t think they want to devour O’Reilly though, which means they need a reason for his defeat.
So I’m going to predict that he loses, Adam Cole comes out to comfort him and then the snap happens. Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish, the other Undisputed Era members, turn on Cole and O’Reilly setting up a tag team rivalry between the UE. This would be because Strong and Fish are jealous that Cole & O’Reilly are capturing the fame and spotlight. Furthermore, WWE seem to be pushing Cole & O’Reilly in the babyface direction but keeping Strong & Fish heels. Therefore, the turn is inevitable.
Now that will be Undisputed, Baybay.
Prediction: Finn Balor
Do you agree with these predictions? The show will be awesome regardless! Let me know on Twitter!
